THANKS GIVING

Well, here comes the day!
And it IS all about Thanks
So much has happened since I had time to post. The elections are over and Obama is clearly working hard to jump right on the issues in January. And we ALL pray for him and the people with whom he is surrounding himself....and us.
My cousin says my original, fist attempt. blog was too long.. People wont have time to read it, she assures me. That's OK. Just start here.

While the turkey is roasting and the pies are baking and I am all cozy chatting with friends over a glass of my favorite wine, I will be thinking of people who are not with us and of the first winter the Pilgrims were ashore when ONE HALF of them died of exposure and starvation. Amazingly, none of the children died, but their mothers were not as fortunate. Some say they gave their food to the children to be certain they survived. What mother wouldn't?

After that first harvest, they had to have such mixed emotions as they gathered to give thanks. My many-great Gramma, Mary Allerton was only five when her parents took her tiny hand and boarded that leaky, top-heavy ship and began their lurching, lumbering voyage across the lonely, angry Atlantic. Mary's mother died that first winter. As they celebrated the harvest the following year (it was not yet called Thanksgiving) little Mary must still have missed her mother terribly.

For all we have, I am so thankful. So grateful. From wherever we have come, we have achieved so much as individuals, a nation, and as a people. Still, I am sure I am not the only voice praying for a safe and secure future .

Love to my friends and family. I wish everyone a great Turkey day with much music, joy, and laughter.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Lady B! I love your blog...makes me want to get my pilgrim book out and read up on the first thanksgiving. Humm. What a good idea! Thanks for reminding us of how lucky we all are to be here.

The only unlucky ones on this day are the turkeys!
